Honorary knighthood
[edit]Since the announcement was made, in March 2009, of the honorary knighthood Kennedy was sick and now has died. These sites raise the question of it not having been actually awarded before his death, and whether he should be awarded a posthumous knighthood. http://donalblaney.blogspot.com/2009/08/poll-sir-ted-kennedy.html http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=58869836516&ref=ts http://answers.polldaddy.com/poll/1918790/ What is the status? Is the information in this article correct?Natwebb (talk) 04:02, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- None of these sites are close to being WP:RS. Wasted Time R (talk) 04:12, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- Is there actually a source confirming he did have it conferred, preferably a formal announcement or a report on the ceremony? Knighthoods are always announced in advance of them actually being awarded - e.g. Rudy Giuliani's was announced in December 2001 [1] but not conferred until February 2002 [2]. Confusingly prospective knights are allowed to use the title and postnominals before being invested (changed after a rule allowing them to use one but not the other made things even more confusing) - Alfred Hitchcock's KBE was announced in the 1980 New Year's Honours List and he was (entitled to be) called Sir Alfred from that point but he died before the ceremony and the Queen had to explicitly grant Alma Hitchcock the style, title, rank & precedence of a widow of a KBE as she didn't have those automatically.
